In 2003, the Japanese government designated Hayakawa Shokosai V as a Living National Treasure—the popular terminology for a “holder of important intangible cultural properties.” This distinction has been conferred upon a small number of individuals since 1955 for their unique skills in traditional Japanese arts. This display tray is made for arrangements of fruit, vegetables, berries, nuts, leaves, roots, and other non-floral plant parts (morimono).
