China is a vast country with a long, continuous history and rich artistic heritage. The China Gallery features bronzes from ancient tombs, elegant furniture from private homes, and sumptuous silk robes and porcelains from imperial palaces. Spanning over five thousand years, the works on display range from the Neolithic period to the present. They include a Tang-dynasty tomb figure of a camel and a lacquer table screen inlaid with mother-of-pearl and gold. Examples of Chinese art are also shown in the Buddhist Art Gallery, the Scholar’s Tradition Gallery, and the Sze Hong Gallery.
