One
of the most influential painters of twentieth-century China, Zhang
Daqian is said to have transformed traditional Chinese painting
into a contemporary form. He combined the talent and skill of
the masters with the bold, innovative brushwork of a modern artist.
This painting is inscribed, "Dedicated to Madam Shu Qing
[Mrs. Wong Pao Hsie], a connoisseur, for her amusement. Dated
the spring of 1963."
